چکیده

We consider conforming finite element (FE) approximations for the time-dependent Oberbeck-Boussinesq model with inf-sup stable pairs for velocity and pressure and use a stabilization of the incompressibility constraint. In case of dominant convection, a local projection stabilization (LPS) method in streamline direction is considered both for velocity and temperature. For the arising nonlinear semi-discrete problem, a stability and convergence analysis is given that does not rely on a mesh width restriction. Numerical experiments validate a suitable parameter choice within the bounds of the theoretical results.

On the Oberbeck-Boussinesq approximation on unbounded domains

We study the Oberbeck-Boussinesq approximation describing the motion of an incompressible, heat-conducting fluid occupying a general unbounded domain in R3. We provide a rigorous justification of the model by means of scale analysis of the full Navier-Stokes-Fourier system in the low Mach and Froude number regime on large domains, the diameter of which is proportional to the speed of sound. Fin...

Fully Discrete Finite Element Approximation for the Stabilized Gauge-Uzawa Method to Solve the Boussinesq Equations

The stabilized Gauge-Uzawa method (SGUM), which is a 2nd-order projection type algorithm used to solve Navier-Stokes equations, has been newly constructed in the work of Pyo, 2013. In this paper, we apply the SGUM to the evolution Boussinesq equations, which model the thermal driven motion of incompressible fluids. We prove that SGUM is unconditionally stable, and we perform error estimations o...

Non-oberbeck-boussinesq effects in gaseous Rayleigh-Bénard convection.

Non-Oberbeck-Boussinesq (NOB) effects are measured experimentally and calculated theoretically for strongly turbulent Rayleigh-Bénard convection of ethane gas under pressure where the material properties strongly depend on the temperature. Relative to the Oberbeck-Boussinesq case we find a decrease of the central temperature as compared to the arithmetic mean of the top- and bottom-plate temper...

DSC numerical solution of the Oberbeck - Boussinesq equations

Dual Scattering Channel schemes generalise Johns’ TLM algorithm and replace the latter in situations where the transmission line picture of wave propagation fails. This is notoriously the case in applications to fluid dynamics, for instance. In this paper, a DSC numerical solution of the Oberbeck-Boussinesq equations is presented, which approximate the Navier-Stokes equations for viscous quasi ...

Evaluation of Gasoline Engine Piston with Various Coating Materials Using Finite Element Method

The purpose of this paper is to examine the piston stress distribution using several thicknesses of the coating materials to achieve higher gasoline engine performance. First of all, finite element structure analysis is used to uncoated petrol piston made of aluminum alloy. Then, steel and cast iron piston materials are conducted and compared with the aluminum piston. After that, investigation ...
